National Evaluation of the Mental Health Care Provider Education (MHCPE) Program
The Mental Health Care Provider Education (MHCPE) Program, sponsored by the Center for Mental Health Services provides training opportunities for first line mental health care providers who have contact with people affected by HIV/AIDS. The program's goal is to enhance the nation's ability to make an impact on the HIV/AIDS epidemic by providing training to traditional mental health care providers (e.g., psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers). Various specialized curricula geared to providers' specific clinical responsibilities are delivered under the auspices of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association and the National Association of Social Workers. Each year, thousands of HIV/AIDS providers attend training sessions and complete participant feedback forms. JBA's role is to conduct an ongoing evaluation of the MHCPE training courses. The primary aim of the evaluation is to investigate whether factors such as participant characteristics or training content, intensity, and duration are associated with differences in participant satisfaction with training or in short-term training outcomes such as participants' knowledge and skills and willingness to treat persons living with HIV. This role entails obtaining and processing completed feedback forms, storing and analyzing data, and creating quarterly and annual reports.
