Heidi Melz, Ph.D., M.S.

Senior Research Associate

Heidi Melz has 19 years of experience researching interventions that address child welfare issues and family structure, functioning, and well-being. She currently works on two projects evaluating child welfare initiatives:

  • Cross-Center Evaluation of the Child Welfare Capacity Building Centers
  • Technical Assistance on Evaluation for Children’s Bureau Discretionary Grant Programs

Melz’s technical expertise includes evaluation design, survey development, data collection through focus groups and interviews, and quantitative data analysis with expertise in survival analysis techniques. Her program and policy expertise includes foster care, welfare policy, teen pregnancy prevention programs, and healthy marriage interventions. ​

Melz received a Ph.D. in human development and family science from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.S. in demography and rural sociology from the Pennsylvania State University.
