Child Welfare

A woman smiles with her young child outside.

All children deserve to feel safe and secure.

Child welfare professionals work with children and families facing complex challenges such as poverty, substance use, and trauma to connect them with critical support and ensure safe and stable homes.

Child welfare agencies at the local, state, tribal, and federal levels promote child safety, permanency, and well-being in collaboration with other service sectors and the justice system. Through rigorous evaluation and technical assistance, JBA helps those systems identify and adopt practices and policies that achieve the best possible outcomes for children and families. Our work touches on all aspects of child welfare, including systems change, maltreatment prevention, foster care and permanency, and substance abuse.
