Exploring the Universe of Young Student Parents

In 2025, we released a report summarizing results from a JBA-led evaluation of the Generation Hope Scholar Program in the Washington, DC, region. Two companion pieces finalized in early 2026 dive deeper into the stories behind the data, including feedback and anecdotes shared directly by Scholars.

First, the team developed a fact sheet detailing the shifting supports and obstacles listed by Scholars as part of their student parent universe. It concludes with ideas for universities to help young student parents on their caregiving and academic journeys. Second, the video below provides a more dynamic look at student parents’ journeys toward their career and parenting goals. Two Scholars also share in their own words how their support systems, including Generation Hope Coaches and Mentors, have helped them stay on course.
