Center for Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

The Children’s Mental Health Initiative, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, supports programs for children and youth with serious emotional disturbances and their families.

It awards system of care (SOC) grants to create sustainable, coordinated, community-based services. This cross-site national evaluation examines the effectiveness and impact of the grantee services.

JBA supported the evaluation of the effectiveness and impact of the SOC grants in expanding, coordinating, and improving care and provided expertise on conducting local evaluations in Native American communities. Project staff served as liaisons to engage grantees in the national data collection process and provide evaluation technical assistance and resources to 14 tribal SOC grantees implementing activities and strategies tailored to their communities to improve behavioral health outcomes for Native American children and youth.
